The Shed Ender
A gadget that promises a quick and easy way to control shedding

March 4, 2008

You can almost mark it on your calendar; when the weather warms up, the fur starts coming off -- onto your couch, carpet, and clothing. But there's something that could make your pet's life easy; it's called Shed Ender and I'm on the case.

Man's best friend, full of fun and fur, which ends up everywhere. It doesn't matter if the pet has long hair, short hair, or curly hair. Hair will shed.

That's where Shed Ender might come in handy. The grooming tool promises to be effective on cats and dogs. It's supposed to be quick and easy way to control shedding, removes shedding where other brushes fail.

Sounds good. So we asked pet groomer Pamela Holloway, of City Veterinary Center, to put the Shed Ender to the test. She's groomed pets for four years. Chester would be the tester dog and, at first, Pamela kind of likes the Shed Ender. "Well, it's definitely pulling the hair out," she says.

But the more Pamela groomed, the less she was impressed. She says, "It should be taking it all the way down to get the undercoat from the skin and pull out."

I ask the tester dog, "Chester do you like that?" We'll take his silence as a 'no comment.'

Next up: Mindy the cat, who really needs a good combing. She has thick, matted hair and Pamela runs into trouble right away. "It just really feels like it's getting stuck," she says.

Pamela was able to work up a pile of fur, but she says her brush and combs work better; they're easier to use. The size of the Shred Ender's tool area is simply too small.

While Chester and Mindy couldn't care less, Pamela has the final say. Pamela says, "I think it would be worth it for somebody at home, but for somebody like me, probably not."

Pamela also says the smaller the pet, the better the Shred Ender will work. You can buy the Shed Ender in many stores for $9.99.

If you have a product you'd like me to test or something you want me to check into, drop me an email or go to our Website at www.cw33.com.
