Stamp Out Hunger
  • Help feed hungry kids and families this summer. Donate to the one-day "STAMP OUT HUNGER" National Food Drive organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). You can place nonperishable food at your mailbox and your letter carrier will collect your donations. Food collected in north Texas will go to Tarrant Area Food Bank and other local hunger-relief charities. Earlier in the week, your mail carrier will have delivered a grocery bag for your donations. The most needed foods include canned meats and fish, canned vegetables, canned fruits, rice, pasta, cereals, shelf-stable milk, boxed instant foods, peanut butter, baby formula, and foods with pop tops for easy access by children. Tarrant Area Food Bank provides donated food to 300 charities in 13 counties around Fort Worth.

The 31st Annual Texas Flute Festival
  • This festival will include concerts, recitals workshops, and masterclasses presented by Renee Siebert of the NY Philharmonic, Beatboxing flutist Greg Pattillo and PROJECT, Italian flutist Andrea Oliva, and Rebecca Powell Garfield 2007 winner of the Myrna W. Brown Artist Competition. The 24th Annual Myrna W. Brown Artist Competition will be held in conjunction with the festival. A $10 auditor fee will allow entry to all events, all three days.

Up With People
  • Host families are needed for 109 Up with People international students who will be arriving in Plano, TX May 12. Tickets will be available soon at Hirsch's Meat Market Host families can volunteer to take one or more students into their homes for the week long stay. Families will be asked to provide Up with People students with sleeping accommodations; limited local transportation in the mornings and evenings; and breakfast, a few dinners and lunches. As a thank you, each host family will receive two complimentary tickets to the Up with People Show.

Thirteenth Annual Get On Board
  • One hundred nonprofit organizations eager to recruit new board members will exhibit at the Thirteenth Annual Get On Board! Representatives from nonprofit agencies will provide information on their work and will be available to meet with potential board members to offer advice on financial commitment, skills, experience qualifications, etc. The event, which is free and open to the public, will match organizations and individuals from diverse communities who have the skills needed to enhance the effectiveness of nonprofit boards, i.e. business managers, legal professionals, accountants, sales professionals and marketing/public relations professionals. FREE and open to the public refreshments provided door prizes.

Score A Goal In The Classroom
  • This benefit concert features live music from Professor D, a nationally acclaimed band with local roots. The festivities also include free food; a cash bar; and a silent auction featuring signed sports memorabilia, spa certificates, dinning opportunities and more. The concert will be held in the Back Forty at the Stockyards Station, located at 130 East Exchange Avenue in Fort Worth, with event parking off of northeast 23rd street. Tickets will be available at the door for $20 per person or $30 per couple.

Artfest
  • As one of the premier fine art shows in the nation and entertaining close to 20,000 guests, ARTFEST 2008 is a juried event bringing together over 200 artists displaying, demonstrating, and selling their one-of-a-kind creations. Proceeds of the event benefit The 500, Inc., a volunteer organization that has supported over 35 local arts organizations over the past 40 years. The Wine Stroll Preview Party, $20 per person, is on Friday, May 23 from 6pm – 9pm. Advance discount tickets for the Wine Stroll can be purchased at Tom Thumb for $15 beginning May 5th. The main event will be held from 10am – 7pm on Saturday, May 24 and from 10am – 6pm on Sunday, May 25. General admission is $6 per day for adults; children under 6 are free. Advance discount tickets can be purchased at Tom Thumb for $5 beginning May 5. Parking is complimentary on Washington Avenue.

Fourth Annual "Nicky's Week" Fundraiser
  • This event will benefit the internationally renowned St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The fundraiser was developed in memory of St. Jude patient Nicholas "Nicky" Mailliard, who was a close friend of the RA Sushi family. The newly opened Plano restaurant and bar will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the signature food items such as tootsy maki, edamame, pork gyoza, and several select beverages including FIJI Water, Red Bull, to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Fort Worth Opera Festival
  • The 2008 Fort Worth Opera Festival, will include ancillary events along with opera performances. The Festival Season includes Puccini's Turandot, Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, and Carlisle Floyd's Of Mice and Men, which will all be staged at Bass Performance Hall in downtown Fort Worth; and Angels in America by Peter Eötvös, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tony Kushner will be performed at the Scott Theatre. 2008 Annual Education Conference: The Gluten Intolerance Group of North America (GIG)
  • GIG is a non-profit organization that supports persons with gluten sensitivity, including celiac disease, through education, information and research. The gluten-free diet is one of the hottest food trends in America and one of the fastest growing segments of the supermarket. But healthy and delicious gluten-free foods are not always easy to find.

Ballet Folklorico de Fort Worth, Inc.'s Children's Festival

More Life Festival - Faces of AIDS Art Exhibit
  • More Life is a collaboration of three AIDS service organizations in Fort Worth (AIDS Outreach Center, Samaritan House and Tarrant County AIDS Interfaith Network) and the Fort Worth Opera, with more than 45 community partners and 60-plus performances, visual art exhibits, town halls and educational programs during the 4-week festival. Among the visual art exhibits is The Faces of AIDS, a dynamic touring photo exhibit that reveals a wide spectrum of life stories. Admission is free. Hours are Monday-Friday 9-5; Saturday 10-5; Sunday Noon-5.

Jazz Champagne Brunch Fundraiser

Sixth Annual KidSwing Golf Tournament

  • Every year on July 4th, the festivities begin with an old-fashioned parade beginning at City Park of Lake Dallas at 9 am. $1000 will be awarded to the top parade entry. Following the parade, City Park festivities begin including free kid's activities, a giant water slide, contests, great food, art/craft booths and live music. The 2nd annual Lake Cities Idol Competition sponsored by VideoPlus will also take place from 3-5 pm! Eleven Hundred Springs will be the headliner band that performs just before the spectacular fireworks show at 9:15 p.m.!

Celebrate Spring with the Colors of Nature
  • View nature-themed art from patients at Children's and check out "Live Animals of the World: a Conservation Exhibit.". Ten patient artists from Children's Medical Center donated their original pieces of art to the exhibit. Many patients at Children's enjoy the therapeutic art classes taught at the hospital. Recreational art is intended to nurture young talent and to provide a community showcase for those who excel in the arts.

Gallego Exhibit
  • For the first time in the United States, researchers have undertaken an extensive study of a 15-century Spanish cathedral altarpiece, and in the process, have unlocked 500 years of secrets involving art, literature, history and religion. Their findings, along with the entire group of stunning, historically significant paintings that comprise the altarpiece, will soon be on view in a special exhibition at the Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday; and 12-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $8 per person, free on Thursday evenings after 5 p.m., and free for children under 12, museum members, and SMU faculty, staff and students. Ample free parking is available in the museum garage.

6th Tulisoma South Dallas Book Fair and Arts Festival
  • FREE (expect for featured lectures price varies between $15-$20). Tulisoma, Swahili for "we read", is a community-based literary festival promoting literacy and the arts in the South Dallas/Fair Park area. Founded in 2003, by District 7 - Dallas City Councilman Leo V. Chaney, Jr., the goal of Tulisoma is to create a dynamic event tailored to engage local families, avid readers, aspiring writers and visitors to the city.

Children's Medical Center Children Helping Children Kick Off and Auction Party

Children's Medical Center Chip Moody Golf Classic
  • The 21st annual Children's Medical Center Chip Moody Golf Classic tees off to raise funds for Children's Medical Center. The shot gun shamble will take place on both the Country Club and Fazio Courses at Stonebriar Country Club. The tournament has ranked in the top 10 Largest Metroplex Charity Golf Tournaments for the past five years.
