FOUND I'm a male dog roaming around Garland 75043. I'm a 1/4 mile from Hwy 30 and Bob Town. I have a collar but no ID tags. I have no visible markings but I am injured in my left hind leg. This doesn't stop me from running -- I do love chasing cars! I'm really friendly, maybe around 2 years old, 60 lbs and possibly a Rottweiler mix. If you know how to get me home, please contact me! |

Looking for Love

My name is "Sweetheart" and I am looking for a home. I am a very adorable, loveable, docile, sweet male cat. My previous owners discarded me 4 months ago and I have been trying to make a living on my own. It's been very difficult for me, I don't understand why they put me out and refused to feed me. I don't bite or scratch, always use the litter box and never mess the house up. I sat outside their house and cried for days. I'm an indoor cat (de-clawed & neutered). This means I have no way to defend myself against outdoor male cats, possums, dogs or raccoons. I didn't know how to hunt for food and it was very cold in late November and December (29 degrees) and I wouldn't have made it if it had not been for a number of kind neighbors who felt sorry for me. They let me sleep in their garages and provided me with food. I learned to win the hearts of people. Would you believe I would walk up to strangers sitting in their backyard patios and jump up on their laps and purr? All I want in life is to have someone to love, a warm place to sleep and a little food to eat. I've been to the vet (1/02/2008) and had my vaccinations updated, tested for leukemia and special shots for spending time living outdoors. The vet said I am in excellent health, 12-13 lbs. and 2 years old. My coloring is pale yellow/gold with faint tiger stripes. Click here if you would like to know more. |

Hi, I'm Moonie. I have been nursing my 6 babies, but they need to be on their own now. They turned 8 weeks old on October 15th. My foster mom will take good care of them until they are adopted. So that I can not have any more babies, I am scheduled to be spayed on October 23rd. There are too many homeless kittens, so I don't want to contribute anymore to the problem. I am so lucky I was rescued by LOA so they could make sure my family and I will have a good home. Me and my family were abandoned--left in a carrier hoping somebody would save us. We nearly ended up at the shelter. At the time, I was pregnant and nursing a kitten. My sister, Sunny, was also nursing her kittens. All the kittens have been adopted, but then I gave birth to 6 more in my foster home. I don't understand why I was abandoned. I am a wonderful girl. Very gentle (even when I was pregnant), and very sweet. I do have a fun side too. I like to chase rattle balls. I don't mind nice cats and mild mannered dogs. Estimated Birthday July 2006. Sydney (female; est bday 11-15-06) and Sanjaya (male; est bday 3/2/07) are two fun cuddly kitties. Sydney is a grey tabby with white. She's a petite girl. Sanjaya is gray with sooooo soft fur and love in his eyes. Sanjaya has a beautiful smile too. The two kitties love playing chase and wrestling with each other. Both will cuddle with their foster mom at night. Sanjaya sleeps on the bed while Sydney will move to her spot on the kitty condo after she finishes "making biscuits" and cuddling with her foster mom. These are two sweet babies that want to be adopted together. Click here if you would like to know more. |
Hey Did You Know:
- Stop spending a fortune on lint brushes that don't work. Pick up a pair of regular rubber dishwashing gloves. Put them on and start sweeping the problem area. You will see all the fur gather together in a ball and simply throw it away. Cheap and easy -- it's the best solution!
- I love it when Lois brushes my backside! You should brush your dog thoroughly every day. This helps remove dirt and spread the natural oils throughout the coat.
- I'd rather watch Family Guy than swim. But if your pet loves the water, keep her ears clean by putting a cotton ball in each ear.
- My tongue goes everywhere so take care of it. Be careful using metal bowls outside in the winter cause my tongue could stick to frozen metal and I could burn my tongue in the hot summer heat.
- Never leave your dog unattended in your car. Even with the windows rolled down, temperatures can reach deadly levels. Don't forget we wear fur coats.
- Keep your dog busy by putting treats or peanut butter into bone marrows or toys with holes in it, like the Kong. This will keep your dog happy for a long time.

Dr. Brian Gives Advice
Did your pet puke on the rug and you don't know why? Maybe it was the martinis.
Send me any question about your pet and I'll give you the best advice!
Question 1:
"Why do dogs have better eyesight and smell then other pets and people?"
Answer:
Dogs don't see the same way humans do. Dogs have a wider field of view and a better ability to detect motion at the horizon. A dog can recognize moving objects nearly half a mile (1 km) away. But if those objects remain still, the dog may not notice them. This is very helpful in hunting fast moving prey. Dogs don't see color very well. The ability to see color depends on the number and type of color-sensitive cells -- called cones -- in the eye. The human eye has more cones, and more kinds of cones, than a dog's eye does. So we can perceive more colors than a dog can. But dogs' eyes outdo ours when it comes to rods. Rods are cells that help dogs (and us) see in dim light. Dogs may not see color very well, but they can see in the dark much better than we can. Dogs can smell up to 10,000 times better than humans. A dog's nose works the same way, but its 200 million or so scent receptors make it much more sensitive than the human nose. The longer the dog's nose, the more scent receptors it has and the better it can smell. Dogs with the best sense of smell, such as beagles and bloodhounds, sometimes called "scenthounds," have long snouts that house a complicated network of tissues, mucus, and scent receptors that enable a dog to recognize its favorite smells.
Question 2:
"I have a schnauzer who lives inside but spends time out in the backyard via the doggie door. I noticed recently that he was crunching on something outside, when I went ot look it was dried up feces!!!!!! yuck!!!! why do dogs do that???, I've tried to scoop the backyard more often to discourage him from doing it. Could there be something wrong with him????..................Susan from Cedar Hill"
Answer:
Eating feces, called coprophagy, is fairly common in dogs and puppies. There are a number of reasons dogs do this, from cleaning up after themselves to boredom. Very seldom, but possible is a nutritional deficiency. Ir your dog is not nutritionally deficient by having them on a good quality food or taking vitamins supplements, there is a supplemental powder that you can add to your pets food to make the feces very bitter tasting and hopefully break your dog's distasteful habit. This powder is called "Forbid".
Question 3:
"i have a 13 year old dog, he has lost some teeth and has bad breath, i have tryed everything, tell me what to do, and he also seems like he may have arthitis, the other day he acted like he was shaking. help in plano, tx."
Answer:
Well, first of all, it sounds like your dog has periodontal disease. Bacteria within the plaque on your dog's teeth will cause bad breath, swollen gums, and eventually tooth loss. I would have your veterinarian check your pet's mouth and gums for infections. They will probably recommend a teeth cleaning followed by dental hygiene products. While you're there have them check your pet for arthritis. There are several good arthritis products available now that do a wonderful job controlling the pain and discomfort. If you want to start your dog on something at home, I would recommend a good glucosamine/chondrotin supplement available at most pet stores. Thanks, and good luck!
Dr. Brian recommends you visit a veterinarian regularly. Like our friend Dr. Keith Webb located at 2703 Market Center Drive Rockwall, TX 75032, or call (972) 772-7777.
